Thanks for these nine ideas go to Kate Miller of Kate Miller Events™:

1) Kate implores her clients to provide lots of buffer - in both time and in your budget. 'I would set aside 10% of your budget for a margin of error (or extra special touches if you don't need to use it). I would also give yourself lots of time budgeted in your crafting and planning process. Try to finish 1 week PRIOR to your wedding, as that will mean that as family from out of town arrive and your friends and family join you to celebrate, you can be present and enjoy your time with them!'

Warmest,
Kate Miller

More great ideas:
2) Provide heaters after dark for an outdoor wedding. Even on warm summer days, after dark you'll still have guests dining outside under the stars. Make sure your guests are comfortable.

3) And especially on those summer days, make sure there's plenty of shade for your ceremony as well as your guests. There's nothing worse than finding yourself sweating it out with your groom in direct sunlight while the officiant launches into a 40 minute ceremony. Don't forget that temperatures often pass 100 in the wine country.

4) Don't seat too many guest at a dinner table. Guests like to spread out when they sit down for dinner and not sit shoulder to shoulder with somebody they don't know or may not even like.

5) Guests shouldn't pay for anything. This means they shouldn't pay for drinks, valet, tips at the bar or the like. If you can't afford to serve hard liquor, forego it. The guests will not miss what is not there and will move on to a glass of wine or a glass of beer.

6) Pay for adequate staff. Not having enough staff to serve properly leads to a long wait time for the guests to get their dinner or drinks.

7) If there's ever a moment you don't want pictures, it's with your mouth full of food. Ask your caterer to feed your photographers and videographers a hot meal, and at the same time as yourself. Caterers often feed vendors after everyone has eaten, not realizing this will insure that they'll be busy eating while you're greeting guests or making toasts.

8) Keep the drive between ceremony and reception to less than 1 hour. Your wedding day time is a valuable commodity - don't use it on the road.

9) Keep to your timeline as best you can and the best way to do that is to hire a very capable wedding planner who can help you stay on schedule.
